My Life

A Person Standing on a Sidewalk in Front of a Wooden Fence and a Tree With Red Leaves

This was an unfortunate time for me – I had a long overdue rotator cuff surgery while living in Germany. I had to wear that “couch” on my arm, all the time, for 30 days! I thought to get a reprieve of sorts in that I bought a sling that seemed it would accomplish the same task, and I only intended to wear it on Sunday morning while in church. Reasonable enough. I went to the surgeon’s office to try and convince them of my plan. The sturdy nurse met me coming in the front door. I say “sturdy” – she wasn’t fat, just such that I wouldn’t want to tangle with her, even if my right arm was up to it. Seated at the reception desk, she looked at me with raised eyebrows. I commenced with my reasonable plan, using my best German/English combination of words. The nurse, who had never once in six months conversed with me in English, immediately stood up from behind her desk. “Ju’ vill vear dat twenty-four hours a day… ju’ vill do so for one month!” So it was. So you see me here.
